Cellist Jesús Castro-Balbi (Peru/USA) and pianist Gloria Lin (Taiwan/USA) perform together since 1996. A committed advocate of new music and of music of the Americas, the Lin / Castro-Balbi Duo has presented the US and European premiere performances of works by Esteban Benzecry, Martin Blessinger, Joan Guinjoan, Marlos Nobre, Luís Sandi, Joaquín Silva-Diaz, Octavio Vasquez, and Samuel Zyman, and released Rapsodia Latina, an album featuring music inspired by Latin America including seven world premiere recordings (www.filarmonika.com), part of the music project Caminos del Inka. The current program Music of the Americas includes works by Peruvian composers Gabriela Frank, Celso Garrido-Lecca, Edgar Valcarcel, and Jimmy Lopez, as well as Argentine composers Luis Jorge González, Astor Piazzolla, among others.
The Duo receives consistent critical acclaim for its work throughout the United States, Asia, Europe and Latin America. It was featured at the 7th Congress of the Americas in Puebla, Mexico; National Public Radio’s Performance Today; Chamber Music America’s 25th Anniversary Concert at Symphony Space; WNYC’s Soundcheck; and Alice Tully Hall in New York; the Beauvais Festival, France; the Banff Centre for the Arts, Canada; the 4th International Chamber Music Festa in Osaka, Japan; the XIV International Music Festival in Morelia, Mexico; the Carlos Chavez Hall in Mexico City; and at the Conservatory Music in the Mountains in Durango, Colorado. At the invitation of MidAmerica Productions, the Duo will give its Carnegie Hall debut at Weill Hall in the Spring of 2012.
